It's hard to tell from the Amazon photo, but the actual lid hook on this is a lot shorter (about 1" less) than the Lodge lid lifters. The lodge model also has an extra crossbar at the handle, which seems unnecessary, but is helpful if you are pulling a lib or pot straight up - you can hold that cross bar more easily in your hand.Sooo... this cheaper Cajun model may be ok for some people, and it is cheaper, but I personally opted for the Lodge model lid lifter for about $5 more instead. Either way, it's very handy having a lid lifter! Pliers, hot mitt, crowbar... None of them are really all that good for this task. Pliers will actually chew up the handle which is not good for your hands next time you go to pick it up. A crowbar (actually I tried a flat "WonderBar") does not hold the lid well, especially at an angle. Could easily dump ashes into your food by accident. So get... Read more |
